Brigitte is largely defined in Overwatch (as is largely required in a game with a wide breadth of characters but not much depth of story) by her relationships with other characters. Most important in this regard are her father, Torbjorn; and her godfather, Reinhardt. Many of her traits beyond basic interests are reflected most strongly when seen through the lens of how she interacts with the latter, and in her similarities with the former.
Like her father, Brigitte is quite talented. From a young age she demonstrated incredible aptitude at the forge, even going so far as to craft her cat a suit of armor when she was but a child. After leaving home, she continued to display her talent, both in repairing Reinhardt’s armor and developing her own armor suit largely out of scrap metal she had available on hand. The efficacy of the armor despite that fact is a testament to her ability, as is the fact Reinhardt is still standing. Although it’s largely an informed attribute in canon, she also inherits stubbornness from her father. Though we are not given much in the way of direct examples of this trait, it’s not hard to imagine her parents having tried to stop her from leaving home to travel with Reinhardt when she was young and had a promising future in engineering ahead of her.
Her godfather, Wilhelm Reinhardt, is also Brigitte’s hero in a lot of ways. When he was forced to retire from Overwatch, the Crusader decided to become a Knight-Errant; upon hearing this news, Brigitte offered her services as his squire. She’d been inspired from a young age by his stories of honor and glory, fantastical tales that nonetheless gave her a strong sense of right and wrong and what being heroic is about. These self-same traits are the ones that led to her following Reinhardt. She can, on occasion, be overprotective of him-while most of the cast are heroic (or villainous) in the traditional sense, Brigitte demonstrates both when there’s a recall for Overwatch and when she and Reinhardt stop at a town under the thumb of a gang that she considers Reinhardt’s safety more important than these larger rights. However, her loyalty to him is even stronger-both times, he insists, and both times, she makes sure to be there to keep him safe.
These traits lead Brigitte to being the sort of girl who will give anything for her friends, including risking her own life-or potentially, the lives of third parties-if that’s what’s required to keep them safe. Much more likely by inaction than action in the case of sacrifices being involved, of course; it’s hard to imagine somebody who became the squire of a knight-errant actively choosing to sacrifice another. When faced with conflict or a difficult choice, this is largely what her actions will spring from-circling the wagons, protecting her and hers, and then afterwards seeking to do as much good as possible.

That meant the end of combat-and a chance for a reward! The village had promised gil, which was nice, of course, but also a free buffet for the group. She clapped her hand on the back of one of her comrades, beginning to move them back towards the direction of town.
“... and chicken, and pork, I really do miss ho-” Cut off by a hand on her shoulder, Brigitte spun around-only to see a terrifying creature standing over the corpses of those they’d already felled, looking angrier than anything she could imagine. Eyes flying wide, she nonetheless raised her shield once more, steeling herself for the impending fight. “Stand behind me, friends! It looks like we have one more thing to take care of before dinner.” Smashing her sword against her shield, Brigitte sought to draw the attention of the new threat as combat began.
